Not central park. Just a park bench in the remains of a rose garden of a ruined manor house in West Sussex. Looks a bit lonely today...

Newly planted geraniums

Newly planted geraniums, originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

These two geraniums are called Katerina Toscana and Wenke Toscana so I like to think of them sunning themselves in the Italian Riviera. However, the truth of the matter is that they are British grown and I purchased them from Tesco. Who knows about their ancestors though...? Don't they look happy to be in pretty pots?? Personally, I can't imagine life without geraniums.

Apparently, geranium oil has a great all-over balancing effect on the mind and helps to sort out emotions - where it helps to relieve feelings of stress and anxiety, and also works on the adrenal cortex, which has a balancing effect on the hormone system. ...just sayin'

Anne Hathaway's Cottage

Anne Hathaway's Cottage ~ photography by me, April 2010

The bed we loved in was a spinning world
of forests, castles, torchlight, clifftops, seas
where we would dive for pearls. My lover's words
were shooting stars which fell to earth as kisses
on these lips; my body now a softer rhyme
to his, now echo, assonance; his touch
a verb dancing in the centre of a noun.
Some nights, I dreamed he'd written me, the bed
a page beneath his writer's hands. Romance
and drama played by touch, by scent, by taste.
In the other bed, the best, our guests dozed on,
dribbling their prose. My living laughing love -
I hold him in the casket of my widow's head
as he held me upon that next best bed.

Chained Bible ~ Shakespeare's Church

This is a photo I took while participating in Shakespeare's birthday festivities in Stratford. It was taken at Trinity Church where The Bard is buried. It's a Chained Bible from 1611 (aka The Great Bible) and is one that would have been used when Shakespeare was alive.

It is, not surprisingly, under glass. I wasn't actually sure whether I could get a decent shot of this under glass but when I looked through the view finder, saw the reflection of the stained glass...

The joy and grace of the camelia bloom

I inherited this plant when we moved in 4 years ago... it was in pretty sad shape.. didn't see a bloom for years.. a couple of years ago I stuck it in a larger pot with camelia compost and feed.. I am sorry to say that with other responsibilities and sheer laziness that the last year or so I have pretty much ignored it. Hence, I never know when or if it will bloom and after the cold, wet winter didn't even expect it to survive, much less bloom. This is its second round of blooms this spring and so beautiful that I find myself enthralled by its elegance.

P.S. I know I am ridiculously behind on my image uploading.. but rest assured, I have been taking the photos. Will try to get the others up asap

Dead or dying Willow

Dead or dying Willow, originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

Well, this is just not very spring like at all I know. But I was on my way home from the shops and spotted this rather sad and spooky looking tree. All the willows I've seen lately are so very graceful and green and then there is this one who if she isn't dead is certainly not very well. Found myself mesmerized by her macabre beauty.

A line of trees Dixie and I pass and indeed walk through on our "normal" walk. I played around with some of the colours in post...

Very busy today removing pesky malware/virus from neighbor's laptop, so not as creative, or at any rate, "wordy" as usual... a blessing in disguise?? :)

Church Spire from a Distance

This is a photo of Chichester Cathedral. I used to live in Chichester and marvelled at the elegance and majesty of this spire while also taking it for granted.

So today I tried to find a perspective that would be somehow less familiar. I took a lot of photos but I liked this view through the swirls of the wrought iron gate the best.

Dreaming of Magnolias

Dreaming of Magnolias, originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

My brain is feeling decidedly fuzzy today.. in fact, I feel some place else altogether.

So, the dog and I ventured on our usual walk .. no energy for anything special today. However, apparently during our busy weekend (when we weren't looking) the magnolia tree on the way to the park decided to bless us with its blooms. And just look at that blue sky?? Hard to believe Mt. St. Unpronounceable (I've stolen that name from John Mosby, by the way) is busy dumping volcanic ash on the South coast of England.

in time of daffodils(who know

ee cummings

I suppose technically these are narcissus... I'm never sure of the difference or if there is one... but these from my front garden are smaller, more delicate than what I consider daffodils.

At the moment there seem to be daffodils absolutely everywhere and in the oddest places!!

But I especially love this verse of ee cummings poem... forgetting why, remember how... To me sometimes spring seems like a force out of our control, but a fun ride nonetheless...

My pond...
Or rather the world that exists somewhere between the boundary of my pond and magical realms...
In the corner you can just spot my goldfish that I sometimes think might be Merlins in the making (legendary tale of Merlin's many reincarnations... one being a salmon... okay, so a far cry from a goldfish but one just never knows, does one?)

However, I think I prefer to let my imagination lead me astray... It has yet to fail me...

Lavender coming back...

Lavender coming back..., originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

Okay, so this is the thing: I spent the entire day completely obsessed with my new Android phone (I think there might some kind of hidden app in there that seduces its owners:). This is (sadly) the only photo I took today and that one merely because I was trying to configure the Picture Messaging capability. I'm not exactly sure I accomplished that task.. So anyway I took this photo as a test photo and then the next thing I knew the day had just slipped away. Still working on the best way to transfer photos from phone to PC, however..

However, I am quite pleased that after a winter of snow and sleet, the lavender I irresponsibly left out is coming back... lovelier than ever. Plant loyalty is a beautiful thing. Don't you just love Spring!!!

Tulip Envy

Tulip Envy, originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

I would love to lay claim to these tulips but alas, mine have yet to bloom... I'm really not very good with tulips, I'm afraid. Thankfully God made geraniums!!

However, on our way to Dixie's pedicure appointment we spotted these lovely vivid colours and decided they needed to be photographed! Just the sight of them changed my mood!!

And just to commemorate (perhaps a little excessively) the rising sap of spring:
If I was a Tulip
And you were wind's-wings,
I would not count
My broken dreams,
But bless the coming spring.

Petrolhead Heaven

Petrolhead Heaven, originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

I'm not that fond of the composition of this photo and not sure if it's deserves to be the last pic of Architecture Week, but... I just like the place... The fabulous red phone box with the old petrol pump and all the vintage signs is just way cool... It's in Poyning around the Devil's Dyke area of the South Downs. It's also one my husband's favourite places and on the way to The Shepherd and Dog, one of our favourite dog friendly Pubs...

Portsmouth Harbour...Past and Present

This has been a very busy weekend... This day started in the dentist's office. However, we ended the day at Gunwharf Quays. I tried to get a dramatic photo of the Spinnaker Tower but I just didn't like any of them at all. I have, however, always loved looking at The Spice Island Inn while travelling on the Isle of Wight Ferry and just as I went to take the shot one of the ferries came cruising in. I kind of like the old contrasted with the new...

Templars in Sompting

Templars in Sompting, originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

This was originally an old Anglo Saxon church... the tower was completed after the Norman conquest, the latter part of the 11th century... In 1154 it was given to the Templars... It is a wonderful church... very small and simple with some very nice Pre-Raphaelite style stained glass windows and one of the most tranquil place I've ever experienced.

This is Friday's photo but we also wandered along the South Downs and I got some lovely shots of beautiful green farm land and cows and old barns, etc. etc. Difficlult to choose for this day but have promised to post some of the others onto Facebook and Flickr for some of my friends and family.

St. James the Less in North Lancing, West Sussex. If I catch it in just the right light, the tower sometimes reminds me of a California Mission. It has become a sanctuary for Dixie and I, as it's only a 10 minute walk from our house. I wish I could find a way to photograph the peace to be found there...

Waiting for Tulips, originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

I didn't find any of today's images particularly interesting... possibly to do with too much Easter chocolate??? However, I have been closely watching some tulips I have planted in a half barrel in the front garden... still no actual blooms but noticed today the tiniest smidgen of colour. I used the macro setting on my little pocket digital. I just kept coming back to this shot...

Now that April's there... Robert Browning

Such a gorgeous Easter weekend down south!!

This is a shot taken while Dixie and I rambled through the countryside. This is located at the foot of the South Downs just behind Lancing College: Blue Skies, Ploughed fields ready for planting, grass just starting to turn green and a scattering of sheep. It struck me as a lovely pastoral setting.

I haven't made any changes to it in post other than Picasa's "I'm Feeling Lucky" button.

Happy Easter, all!!

Project 365 Day 12

G and I were on the A280 (Long Furlong) around Patching, West Sussex on our way to Middle Farm and stopped to take a photo of a really interesting house. Sadly the light wasn't really right that time of day and the photo turned out really uninteresting but next to it was this lovely view of England's "green and pleasant land". Blue skies are actually a bit of a miracle or the grace of God depending on your point of view, as the day started out gloomy and rainy...

...the air smells good...

...the air smells good..., originally uploaded by robinintheuk.

by Rumi

Lord, the air smells good today,
straight from the mysteries
within the inner courts of God.
A grace like new clothes thrown
across the garden, free medecine for everybody.
The trees in their prayer, the birds in praise,
the first blue violets kneeling.
Whatever came from Being is caught up in being, drunkenly
forgetting the way back. really carried away today... slightly inebriated by all the sunshine, bird song, blue skies and the heavenly breath of spring.
